AWE / PAE memory
when AWE need to enable in SQL Server. SQL Server supports Address Windowing Extensions (AWE) allowing use of physical memory over 4 gigabytes (GB) on 32-bit versions of Microsoft Windows operating systems. but if my Physical memory is 65 GB then we need AWE memory enable ???? I am very confuse, Please tell me when we do enable AWE memory in SQL Server.
What is your operating system? Windows Server 2003 or 2008? 64 bit or 32? Same for your version and edition of SQL. If you are on a 64 bit OS and 32 bit SQL then AWE should be all you need. If you are on 32 bit OS then you may need to enable the 3g switch as well. All is very well documented online. If your OS and SQL are 64bit then you are all good.
thanks for reply I have 32 bit Windows server 2003 as per my knowledge when we use 3g Switch and have 32 bit Os with 4 GB Ram. then system provide 1 GB for OS and 3 GB for process. but as per my question when my memory is more then 4 GB Example 64 GB then we need 3g Switch or AWE memory or not ?
Also what OS **edition** are you running? If it is Standard - then 4Gb is your max.

ditto for 2003 vs 2003 R2. Hey - this is a classic opportunity for us to have said "it depends", and none of you went for it.
if my OS Windows Server 2003 32 bits and have RAM 132 Gb. its require for AWE memory or not ?
