Where is the Love? [Meta]

The whole concept of this site is voting. You're not doing it. [Take this question and answer for example][1]. It's a well constructed question with enough code for replication, yet, despite it being viewed 56 times, it only has two votes (one of them mine). Then, we see Kev's excellent answer which is concise, clear, to the point and accurate. But it only has 3 votes (one them also mine). That means one person out of 55 voted on the question (probably Kev) and two out of 55 voted on Kev's answer. That's not how the site is supposed to work. You need to vote. Or, if you don't think Kev's answer is worthy of a vote because it's incomplete or incorrect, then please, supply your own answer. Then the rest of us will vote on that. But we must vote. There are far too many people looking at these questions and answers and not using the feedback mechanisms that this site depends on. We also need to start engaging the questioners (the ones who stick around, far too many seem to post the question then disappear) to vote on answers and mark one as correct. This will improve the quality of the site for all of us. Come on people. It's the Chicago way. Vote early & often. [1]: http://ask.sqlservercentral.com/questions/98043/sql-query-help-4.html

+1 Yep one of them is mine :) I take the approach that if a question is good enough for me to provide an answer, then it deserves a vote. Obvious that's not an exclusivity rule! Other questions also get my vote, but I often see questions with multiple answers and yet no votes.

Yeah, I'll answer a question and not vote it up too, but that's the exception. By default, if I'm answering it, it gets a vote. But I also vote for the ones that were clear enough that someone else provided a good answer for. It's the best way to promote this stuff in the search engines on the site & we need to encourage more of it.

And don't vote for this question. Go vote for all the others.

Particularly need to get people to accept answers... Judging by my email lately, most of the answers being accepted are being accepted by our very own @Grant Fritchey. Surely he's got better things to do than doing your homework...

Voted for this one *and* some others! I often forget to up-vote a question which I'm answering, good that you remind us now and then :)

It says there's an answer here, but I can't see one. I'll supply my own. Based on the last couple of days of voting, I'd say that posting up a meta-post about forum etiquette every so often might be the best solution.

And don't forget to vote up answers as well as questions! You've got, what, 60 votes a day? Use them!
