mssql access

I need to access the sql server from remote. on the sql server I can access it by doing Name or IP address, SQL authentication, sa, password BUT I can not access it from any other computer, via private IP on the subnet or the public IP assigned to that private IP. Can someone tell me why I can only access it at the server level? thanks, Raul Rego,

Is TCP/IP enabled? You can check by [going through the first few steps in this link][1], which has you open up SQL Server Configuration Manager and look to see if the protocol is enabled. If not, enabling this would let you access the instance from outside the server as opposed to RDPing in and using SQL Server Management Studio on the server itself.
