Backup Maintenance Plan - error code 0x5. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 15404))

We have a maintenance plan for DB backup which runs under the SQL Service Agent account. The logon for the SQL Agent Service is domain\\username who is also the system administrator. The Backup job puts the 'bak' file directly on another server. This login id has admin rights on both machines as well as full control permissions on the destination folder. The job was running fine till last friday, but over the weekend the job failed stating the error shown in the question above. The password of this account was changed on last monday, but till friday it did not create any issues. I changed the logon password for the SQL Server agent service, but it still gives the same errror. Will I have to update the password for the main SQLSERVER service and restart it for the maintenance plan to execute? Please confirm... Thanks !

If the Engine and the Agent share the same service account then yes you will need to change both service's passwords. Also it is the Engine which does the writing of the BAK file not the Agent, so again yes you will need to change the main SQLServer service password and recycle for it to take effect. Always wise if possible to set service account passwords to never expire if your organisation allows it.

Thanks Anthony, I'll have to try it in the non-business hours. Will get back once the solution works... Thanks in advance !
