How to upgrade SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition to SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition

I want to upgrade one of my production servers from SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition with SP1 to SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard edition with SP1. Can anyone suggest me how to upgrade SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition(SP1) to SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition(SP1). Or any other way to resolve this issue. Is it possible to do this by using Upgrade Advisor. Thanks, Pankaj Kota

You should be able to do this simply by running the setup and doing an edition change, unless you have implemented non-standard features, especially failover clustering, in which case you will need to reinstall (or more specifically install another instance and move your databases across)

You might want to read this http://blogs.msdn.com/b/jenss/archive/2009/01/27/change-the-edition-in-sql-server-2008.aspx And always take backups before any upgrade - system AND user databases.

Thanks Kev. I was thinking to do it by using maintenance wizard in SQL Setup or by using Commandline SKUUPGRADE=1. Is It Ok to go ahead with what i am thinking because i am naive in SQL Server and not sure whether it will work or not. Regards, Pankaj Kota
