Backup process keeps executing - Log Shipping

Hi All, Currently, I got a problem in backup process in log shipping. The backup process keeps processing. I have done a manual backup, and it works perfectly. In this case, it's just a matter of the generated job (LS_Backup) in log shipping is stuck. I did check the query running in the database and I found no backup process running. Another analysis, I tried to create a couple new blank databases and new Log shipping which refers to the new databases created. Unfortunately, the Log shipping (backup process) doesn't work as well. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance, Hery

All, Thanks for the great responses. At this moment, we just restarted the server and eventually, the backup now run as expected. And as you guys suggested, we're planning to update the patch to SP3. Thanks in advance.

What version of SQL Server are you running? Please post the results of select @@version. I have encountered problems on RTM releases.

Hi Tim, I am running SQL Server 2008 RTM version. Have you found a way to overcome this issue? Thanks in advance, Hery

Patch to SP3 and give it another try. Lots of fixes have been applied to SQL 2008 since RTM. I bet you will find that log shipping operates as intended after applying the service pack.

Hi Tim I am still in puzzle figuring out of this issue. This SQL Server 2008 RTM actually has been being applied to our DRC server since 2010. All Jobs created using LS, ran smoothly. This issue came up about a week ago and we just found it out that our LS's jobs got stuck.

Thanks for the additional info, I was under the assumption this was a new process. Have you tried restarting SQL Server Service and or reboot he box? The first thing that jumps out is that you have had this server in production since 2010 and haven't patched SQL since the base install?

Yes,I have restarted SQL Server Service and I tried to create the LS from the beginning. It's still the same as the previous one. Yes, it's still SP 1 since the base install. If it could be the root cause, why this just occurred after we've applied this for a couple year?

You state you're running the RTM version of 2008. There was a bug with regards to running out of disk space that meant a backup would never complete and could leave a hanging SPID which would prevent the database from being backed up again until such time as you restarted SQL. I would recommend applying SP3 (the most recent version) or at the very least RTM CU7 which fixed that bug.
