SSRS 2008R2 exports Excel files in a format that is compatible with MS Excel 97 and later. What exactly are you getting that is Excel 2007?

Yes, the file you will get is an .xls file which will be Excel-97 compatible - can you not open it in Excel 97?

One lucky person you are. I am amazed if you can get the export in 2007 format. AFAIK, this is not possible yet with 2008 R2 (At least for us). I heard that could be a feature in SQL Server 2012.
