dropping datafiles gives problems on snapshot (?)

Hi,

The following situation: Primary SQL2K5 mirrors a database to a secondary SQL2K5. On this secondary a snapshot is taken on a daily base (at 0:00) for BI activities. Os is Windows 2K3, x64

Due to a reorg of the database, some datafiles (belonging to the same filegroup) are no longer used and empty. So I dropped those files. When I refresh the snapshot, I got strange errors. SQL restarted and messages like "Unable to read and latch page (23:2) with latch type SH. 6(The handle is invalid.) failed." We check the databases regularely and no consistency errors were encountered.

My guess is that the missing datafiles in the snapshot is causing this problem. I also see that dropping the snapshot database is not removing the files.

Has somebody the same experience and some advice? Thanks!
