SQL Service Not Starting after installation

Hi,

Just build the new development server and installed couple of instances with SQL 2008. Restart the Server after installing SQL2000BC and SQL200DTC, now getting error saying Device Not Ready and SQL not starting.

Any Idea?

Without more information, it's hard to say, but the most frequent errors are security related. Check all the services and the accounts they're using. The second most frequent error is network related. Do you have the write protocols enabled? The third most frequent error is path related. Do you have all the right data drives, etc.

AFter that, you have to be driven by the error message.

am getting following message in event viewer - The description for Event ID ( 17147 ) in Source ( MSSQLSERVER ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: also in system - The SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service failed to start due to the following error: The device is not ready.

Device not ready sounds like hardware. Are all the drives online and accessible? Are they accessible to the account that SQL is running under?
