SQL SERVER HARDWARE/HARDWARE instructions

Guys,

I was actually presenting a hardware and software installation document, and was going through some of the MSDN information associated with it. I am also providing the link that i was looking at to prepare the documentation.

i didnt understand what did this note meant in the quotes .. Can somebody help me understand?

'SQL Server 2008 is not supported on Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Server Core installations'

Core is a stripped down version of those products, with very little installed.

Microsoft:

The Server Core installation option for the Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system provides a minimal environment for running specific server roles that reduces the maintenance and management requirements and the attack surface for those server roles.

If i understand correctly "core" mean things like the web edition, which has limited functionality.

If you are using Windows Standard/Ent/DC then dont worry.

Just found a Link in Petri's site that may give you an insight.
