'SQL Server 2008 is not supported on Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Server Core installations'
Answer by Kev Riley ·
Core is a stripped down version of those products, with very little installed.
The Server Core installation option for the Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system provides a minimal environment for running specific server roles that reduces the maintenance and management requirements and the attack surface for those server roles.

If i understand correctly "core" mean things like the web edition, which has limited functionality.
If you are using Windows Standard/Ent/DC then dont worry.
Just found a Link in Petri's site that may give you an insight.
