Killing a shrinking dbfile process

Hi,

I have a db with a mdf and ldf. And the mdf file size is around 350 gba and nearly 60% of its having free space and occupied the complete drive. Someone from our team had modified the filegrowth parameters from standard set by us. Now we had started the shrinking of mdf file from gui. Shrink process is running for the past 18 hours and its completed only 60%. If I kill the shrink process now will it have any impact on my database. Please resond asap.

Yes, it's safe to kill it.

But why would you want to shrink it anyway? There's certainly no problem in having lots of free space in your data file.

@Fatherjack - I'm from the old school whereby database drives should be for databases - certainly no place for backups and definitely not the O/S... other DBs though... could be...

does it require any downtime for the db

@Matt - sort of depends on what else needs the drive - OS, backups, other dbs ... ?
