Matt is missing a badge ...

OK, I'm on leave this week and having a look around the whole ASKSSC site. Thing I notice first - the Questions page isnt the only one on the site!! Seriously though I just went in to the Badges link and was reading what some of the badges are awarded for and there is one called "Strunk and White" (no idea what it means, i guess its something American that I need to look up on wikipedia) that is awarded for editing 100 entries. Two people have that badge and those two people are .. .. .. Kev and Mel - http://ask.sqlservercentral.com/badges/12/strunk-white. What is an entry in the terms of this badge and what is broken in the site that has meant that Matt is not credited? Surely he's edited more that 100 questions, or is a question a different thing to an 'entry'?

Matt, sorry id this puts you in an awkward position (again) but credit where its due and it may also point to something being wrong somewhere .. ? maybe ?

There's not much visibility to badges like that, as in you can't see how many 'entries' you have edited. A bit like the 'Enthusiast' and 'Fanatic' - there is no way to see that you are on x consecutive days (although mods can see user history and derive that I guess).

We'll just have to wait for Matt to answer to see if he thinks he has edited lots....

Update: from this discussion seems that self-edits and retags don't count...so formatting should ...

But whether editing one question 100 times would count.....

well, I'm on leave so I could either go chop some wood and sort out the garage or see if I can edit one question 100 times to find out if I get the badge ! (think the garage wins :( )

It says 'only edits to title and body count' and if you look in the edit history, when you do formatting it doesn't mention body changes...

I can answer this one with my theory - I think that format edits don't count towards Strunk & White, and most of the edits I do are format only. I do the odd blatant typo here and there, but mostly I'm the 'god-dammit-couldn't-you-have-clicked-the-code-format-button' editor...

But to be honest, that's one of the things that does suck about StackExchange - it's hugely opaque. For example, I'm 99% sure that more people have flagged posts than have been awarded Citizen Patrol. I asked Mel about it (I did post in the other question) and apparently there's not much that can be done in terms of control / understanding. We can simply read blog.stackexchange.com and meta.stackexchange.com, and hope we can figure out some stuff...

It seems that editing the format should most certainly count. Maybe each time we edit the format we also throw in an extra character somewhere?

Yeah, I've been on a typo mission recently :)
