Scheduled downtime for a mirrored database

Hi,

I have a hardware (more memory & new CPU's) upgrade scheduled on my principal database server tomorrow. I was going to do the following -

check backups
check dbcc checkdb
failover to mirror
remove witness
UPGRADE THE H/W
fail back
re-add witness

does this sound ok. I was concerned that if i didn't remove the witness it could try to initiate a failover during the upgrade????

As long as SQL Server isn't up, you wouldn't have to worry about it trying to fail back over. The reason to remove the witness before shutting down the pricipal server is to allow the mirror server to continue working.

If you left the witness up and you lost network connectivity between the mirror (acting pricipal) and the witness, your database would shutdown due to the lack of quorum.
