Installation problem SQL Server 2000

is it possible to install SQLserver 2000 on Windows Vista .I m unable 2 Install sqlserver 2000 on win Vista... waiting for the helpfull answer

SQL Server comes in different Editions, and some can't be installed on "Client Operating Systems" (such as XP, Vista, 7). These require "Server Operating Systems" (such as Windows Server 2000, 2003, 2008).

But if you can get the Developer Edition, you should be able to install this. You will need to bear in mind that officially it's not supported. If you set the service to use a Delayed Start, this will help, and you may need to leave it running as a more privileged user than you would like.

Hi Dayanand, as rob said vista supports developer edition for SQL-2000.note that,go to services and select the particular SQL server agent,within the properties select startup type as automatic.i too faced the situation once.

It's also possible you're installing an older, unpatched and un-service packed, version of SQL Server 2000. Be sure you have the latest version available.
