Do I trust the new installation?

I have just installed a new SQL 2008 instance beside my SQL 2005 instance on my production server and the install completed with a message saying it failed to complete successfully as the services could not be started.

Looking in AD, the domain account for SQLBrowser and the other services got locked out (may have been my mis-typing the pwd in the setup screen). I have unlocked the account and the services have started with no errors.

Will the install be reliable or should I uninstall and reinstall?

I see no reason why, based on a security issue, the installs should not have completed successfully. If there are no other errrors, you're good to go.

Of course, I'd still run DBCC on the databases and validate connectivity, that all the servers are running, etc. Paranoia in this situation is not a bad thing, even if you didn't have errors.

One way to test it if you can with a production server is reboot the machine and see if the services start correctly.

The failure point was on starting the services. Since you were able to start the services, I would trust it. However, I typically reboot the server after an install anyway. Thus, a good final test would be to reboot the server and verify service startup.
