unable to connect to the database

Hi,

i'm unable to connect to the database. previously it was working fine. now it is showing error 26 sometimes ,error 40 sometimes when i change the server name also.I uninstall ed the previous one. after i tried to install a new one. this time it was not fully installed. i again went back to restore previous one...please tell the solution for this problem...

can you add the full error text please? Also, can you explain what you mean by installed the database?

As others have said, the actual error message would help, but taking a stab here.....

Error 26 is caused by not being able to resolve connection config settings when connecting to a named instance via the SQL Browser. See this link for more detail.

Error 40 is given when the attempt to connect via Named Pipes is unsuccessful.

When you talk about un-installing and re-installing, do you mean instances?

Check the basics as mentioned in the article, like names, SQL Browser running etc.
