An error occurred while processing 'BackupMetadata' metadata for database

We have a database on SQL2005 and it is giving the error mentioned above when we try a backup The problem seems to be 2 entries for FULLTEXT in sys.database_files. The files shown in these entries do not exist. The database has been attached without the Full text catalog option and select * from sysfulltextcatalogs fetches no results. How do I get rid of the spurious entries in sys.database_files? thank you
