SSRS Config issue - User does not have permissions...

I have been experimenting on and off over the last 3 months trying to get Reporting Services/ReportManager working on my home laptop, but to no avail!! I am getting the error : "User 'Chaitanya-PC\Chaitanya' does not have required permissions. Verify that sufficient permissions have been granted and Windows User Account Control (UAC) restrictions have been addressed.." See the screenshot at this link: https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0BzcEy7gNCZviMDc5Mzk1NDEtNmI2MC00N2YwLWFiMDktOGVhOGZjN2ExOTlh&hl=en_US This is even though the User - "Chaitanya-PC\Chaitanya" is defined as the Administrator on my laptop. All other components of SQL Server are running fine (Database Engine,Profiler, Integration Services etc.) I have installed the following - a) SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition - the x64 option, with Integrated Security. b) My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Note - The Windows OS is NOT part of any domain etc., it is a personal - home use laptop. c) I am trying to access the ReportManager through IE 9 64 bit. I have already tried the following things, based on research on the net - 1) Made localhost & Chaitanya-PC part of "trusted sites" in IE 9 Internet Options-security tab. 2) Run the IE9 as administrator. 3) Reinstalled Reporting Services to use Service Account NT Authority\NetworkService. (I even ran the SQL Setup program as 'adminstrator') 4) Given full directory access to User Chaitanya-PC\Chaitanya for all the Windows directories in which report server/report manager files are stored. I am at my wits end how to solve the issue. If you notice, there is no further link in the page that opens in the browser, where I can configure or change the existing permissions, hence I am quite at a loss on what to do next. Would greatly appreciate any help on this....

OK, finally cracked it! As I said, running as administrator was not working because the link "Site Settings" was not visible even when I did this, hence I was unable to add the user "Chaitanya" in the Admin Role... What finally worked was that I removed the User Account Control in Windows, and restarted the laptop. This time, when I browsed to the site, it allowed me to view the Report Manager page. Then I went to the site settings option and added myself as an Admin. Then, I again set the UAC back to the default level and restarted the laptop. Now, I can access the Report Manager page as an Admin! So basically the trick was to shut off UAC for sometime and do the required settings!

It's a bitch isn't it? It's something to do with the combination of web security and UAC. I've never seen either of them properly explained. Here's what you have to do: 1. Run IE as administrator and go to the Report Manager. 2. Go into Site Settings \ Security. 3. Add your account in the role System Administrator.

As shown in my screenshot, there is no option to go into "Site Settings Security", even when I run IE9 as Admin... I am beginning to think that Windows Home Premium does not support Reporting Services/report Manager

Oops. I should have read your question a bit more carefully. I skimmed it, saw all the signs of the same problem I had, and stopped seeing what you were actually saying. Thanks for pointing it out. I'll have to watch that. I'm glad you found a solution and thanks for sharing it.
