Migrate data from Access to SQL Server 2008 Denali CTP3

Hi Everyone, My client has Access 2003 as source database and SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 Denali CTP3 as destination database. Now my clients wants to export data from Access to SQL Server 2008 I can use Export Wizard in SQL Server 2008 and export data from Access to SQL Server 2008. ****But can I use same Export wizard and transfer data from Access to SQL Server 2008 Denali CTP3 ?**** Any inputs will be appreciated. Thanks, Jerill

It might work, but it won't be supported! Why do you want to move your clients live, production data to a product that is still in beta? Or is this a proof-of-concept? Even if it does or does not work, there's no guarantee that the behaviour of a CTP will be reflected in the RTM.

If they are not sure, then they should go for the one that is live and supported - 2008 R2. Denali is not going to be released until next year.

I think you are getting something confused there. Denali is the codename for the next version of SQL Server, which has just been announced as SQL Server 2012, releasing next year. CTP3 is the Community Technology Preview version 3, a pre-release, beta version that is released to the community in order to gather feedback, bugs etc. CTP versions are always time-limited and are not to be used for production systems. The latest version of SQL that is currently live is SQL Server 2008 R2 . The previous version was SQL Server 2008.

Hi Kev, Thanks for quick response. It makes lot of sense of what you saying. I will rather stick SQL Server 2008 only and use Export Wizard in SQL Server 2008 to migrate data from Access to SQL Server 2008. Can you tell me what are difference between SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 Denali CTP3 ? Thanks
