SSRS users to build own reports but restriced to using existing shared data sources

My objective is to set up some of our users with Report Builder skills to be able to create reports in their own My Reports area. However I do not want them to be able to create new data sources. They must be restricted to existing shared data sources created by the DBA. I can manage most of this via the Domain Groups and SSRS roles. However the "New Data Source" button still appears to the user in SSRS. Can any one help in meeting my objective?

Sadly there isnt a security setting that lets you enable/prevent this. There is only one for manging (edit/delete) Shared Data Sources. Is the new data source button an issue, It simply means they can attempt to connect to data they are able to access anyway. If they cant build a report but want the data then they'll build an Excel spreadsheet to it...

Yes I had come to that conclusion myself. I have decided not to use the My Reports feature at present. We are attempting to make SSRS our only reporting tool throughout the organisation eventually replacing products such as Crystal and Business Objects. This will be a long slow process but will eventually reduce overall licensing costs. Overall SSRS security needs to be a bit more configurable. The potential is there but it needs improvements. Users see options they can not use, buttons are displayed which will not do anything, Report Builder button is either on or off for a user (Not dependant on the folder) etc. My personal view is there probably needs to be more tasks relating to specific actions which can then be assigned to appropiate SSRS roles. This will allow the user interface to be more configurable by being dependant on the current folder permissions for that user.
