My environment consists of multiple sql 2005 instances and two sql 2008 R2 instances. In both 2008 instances, I'm having a problem modifying Maintenance Plans that I created. I can create them; they run fine; but when I attempt to modify either plan, both via the Modify command and by double-clicking on the plan, nothing happens. It's as if I did not issue a command. Could this be a client tool/server installation mismatch? What should I be looking at? Thanks.
A big issue can be the version of SSMS you are running. SQL Server 2005 SSMS is supported in connecting to higher editions of SQL Server but only if it is at SP3 I beleive. If you are using the same version of SSMS to the edition you are connecting to I would not expect an issue. If you are using SSMS for SQL 2008 R2 and still experiencing issues I would just run a repair on the desktop tool installation. That usually clears up quirky things like this for me, not that I try to do it often.
