sql server 2008 installation error

hi all, I am trying to install sql server 2008 standard edition64 bit, and i see that i am getting this error
"current operation system is X64 architecture. This media is not supported for running on the system"
The operating system is also 64 bit windows server 2008 r2 enterprise. any idea why this error? Thanks

It might be worth confirming that you aren't attempting to install the IA64 version. Are you performing an automated install or via the GUI? If using the GUI what screen do you get the error message on?

you sure the installation media is 64-bit? I know DVD media usually has both and it will pick which architecture it detects the OS is at, but if you downloaded it from the MSDN or vendor it may be specific.

I had this issue as well and tried lots of diffrent ideas. In the end I realized the installation media (image) was corrupt. Check if someone has done a successfull install using the same specific media.

You are right, it so happened that the iso that was built out of sql server was corrupted. Figured it out. Thank you.
