We have a requrement to design a report model that is unique to each state users. report models created and deployed to report server. and now when users log into report server they only see the report model and data source for their state and they have only report builder access, no site setting,no any other setting. This is done by role assignment and item level security,no problem. The problem is when a user runs the report builder he/she sees all the report models on the right side window of the report Builder, rather we want the specific model to show up.Please shed some light on this thanks
You can configure security indepentently for each model from Report Manager. So, you would go to each model in the Report Manager interface and configure a group to have access to that model. Then you could manage the security by modify Windows group membership (my recommendation, rather than granting acces for each user's individual account). The following two options would require making changes to the model but allow you to have onle one model: You could have each State be its own entity within the model. Then, in Report Manager, you could configure Model Item Security and grant appropriate Windows groups access to each State as appropriate. Another option that would allow for a single report model for everyone would be to set up row-level security within the report model. It takes some effort to set up, but it would then filter the rows returned to each user based upon their access level you have chosen for the State values. This can be a little complex during setup but allows for far less admin down the road since you would only have one report model to administer. I hope this helps you.
