I'm interested that you don't think the time based ones count. I think they're the most indicative, since they are ones that actually represent effort being put in. The others are all based around the activity level of the community, which isn't something that you can really have any bearing on...

I'm looking for something that generates interest, rather than a stamina-based measure. I definitely think Fanatic counts, but I want to give the 500 points to the question/answer that has generated enough interest that the site has grown for it.

I just looked through the number of views on the questions, not the number of votes or comments or answers, just views. Most of them are around 18. Assuming only about 30% response rates (high actually), you're just not going to see anyone hitting the levels required for gold until there are more eyeballs on the site.

Yup, so I'm trying to think of ways that people can encourage use of the site more. I did a recent blog-post, mentioned it to MVPs, and so on. It's never going to have the traffic of StackOverflow, but it would be good if it could have an order of magnitude more than it currently does.
