Explain the error ORA-01555 ?

I got this error while doing the rollback to a database. Can anybody explains why?. Thank you.

Briefly, the rollback segment is too small to support what's being done. The rollback segment can grow automatically but the kind of activity that triggers growth may never occur. If that's the case, you can hit this problem.
