By default all members of the local Administrators goup have unlimited access to the Reporting Service. But don't forged about UAC on Vista/ Win7 / WinServer 2008. Another thing are authentication options set in IIS as SSRS 2005 uses IIS for access. SSRS itself doesn't have any credentials stored. So everything depends on the IIS authentication settings and asignments of local/AD users/groups in SSRS.

The store credentials inside some of the properties in SSRS you mean probably Credentials in DataSources. There you can store credentials, but those are for connecting to datasources like SQL Server instance, SSAS, remote DB servers etc. On what system you are running SSRS? In on Vista/Win7/WinServer2008 then for the first time you have to run the IE with Administrativer priviledges and then add your user name on to home folder as Browser, Content Manager etc. But there are only stored users and their rights. Not the passwords.

@Pavel - I couldn't respond to your answer. SSRS I have seen store user credentials for access in the Properties link from within the SSRS. Is that not considered SSRS credentials? I want to make sure I better understand your post. I also had been a local admin of the Reporting Service but did not have access to the SSRS Properties for Browser, Content Manager, Report Builder, etc. and this too cause authentication issues.

@Pavel - I was running on an XP box, though I experienced the same on Vista Ultimate. I'm not sure that these permissions are soley for datasource credentials. If that would be the case wouldn't these permissions not allow SSRS edit options? Thank you for your response(s). I appreciate the feedback and info you are sharing. Especially where I support and create reports in SQL all the time it would be awesome for me to better understand. :)

Also as I mention in my answer.. SSRS 2005 utilize IIS, so also there maybe a problem with the authentication. Depends how the virtual folder/site have access rights configured. It is necessary to configure it properly, othewise you will not be able to authenticate to SSRS 2005.

I am now logging to the Report Server http:\\localhost\ReportServer , with the ABC user and the password , then too I am not able to login to the Server. Could you please help me in understanding where exactly I am going wrong. Thanks in Anticipation.

What is your OS? If it is WinWista, Win7 or WinServerR2 and UAC is enabled, you have to run the IE as an administrator to be able to access the reporting services instance. After that connect to the report manager and assign correct rights for your newly created account.
