Takover Clustering 2008

When you take over SQL server Clustering 2008, what are the things that you check? drives? the installation? or any checklists. please let me know your experience. Thank you!

You need to know the hardware configuration of each node (ideally they are identical). Make sure you check that there is no single point of failure (who knows how the cluster was setup). If the cluster is a windows 2008 / R2 installation you can use the cluster manager to perform a cluster validation check. Thsi will produce a report seeing that each of the best practices for clusters has been met. Any warnings or errors should be taken into consideration here - not all are bad. Check the system as you would any other machine you took on, error logs, change logs (if it exists), patch levels, usage history (perfmon, user numbers), maintenance history (hardware/software). Take a look at the maintenance contract with the hardware supplier, so you know what needs doing in case a part gets broken. Are you only responsible for the SQL Cluster, or also the OS and Hardware. Maybe your OPS Team (if you have one) can already answer a lot of questions, or is reponsible for the points I already mentioned. That should give you a start.
