Question about checkpoints

Good Day, Can you please advise me on below query. - How/Where we can identify that the data base is not performing checkpoint? - What are the reasons that dabtabase is not able to perform a check point? - How we can execute checkpoint manually? Rgds,

How did that rhyme go: "First the worst, second the best, third the one with the hairy chest". Who is going to be number 3? ;)

Checkpoints will be performed by the database engine automatically (they can be turned off, but that is an extreme edge case - don't do this without seriously thinking about the concequences). You can turn on a trace flag to log the checkpoint to the error log when they occur ([Link to TraceFlag 3502 Usage][1]). If a checkpoint cannot be performed, I would think there is a serious problem in the database - read up on [when a checkpoint occurs][2] and you will see that checkpoints are a central part of sql server. A checkpoint is executed using the command `CHECKPOINT`. You have to have the correct permissions in the database to perform a checkpoint though - `db_owner` and `db_backupoperator` at the database level and sysadmin at the instance level.
