SSRS formatting - Automating

Hi, I have a requirement on SSRS. Everytime when we get the report to develop we have to deliver it with the predefined format. For example : a. Numberic Values should be left alinged and 1000 (,) seperator b. All the fixed value columns should be Center aligned and headers c. All the Variable length should be left aligned and their headers I want to automate this , if I only pass the column names the report should be arranged in that way. Let me know if the above requirment is not clear.

Kirman, if someone has an answer they will provide it. Your question is a really interesting one, but something i think noone has tackled before. If you do a google search for "SSRS formatting automation", this question is number one! One way of doing this may be to perform data type checks within a report and go from there. The problem being, you would need to do that per column and that would slow rendering down quite a bit. I don't have an SSRS deployment to play with (yet), so can't really say if this would be possible.

Do you mean that 1- you want a report template to have certain formatting each time that you start BIDS to save you time or 2- that depending on certain values provided by the user in report parameters you want the formatting in a deployed report to be altered - on-the-fly as it were? Both are possible but until I know which it will be tricky to advise you further

A new report has no data connections so it wont be possible to alter formatting at that point. He could have a number of templates and select according to need ...

The formatting he mentions should apply to all new reports (automatically). Can a template be defined this way? The template should recognise the data format coming from the DB and then apply the matching layout. I would guesst this is only possible through coding inside the report (as I mentioned in the comment).

I can't create many templates as there are many reports. If there is a way that I can do the Coding in SSRS , where as per the Length of the Column , the size and alignment property can be changed.
