I'm guessing that this is a follow on to your recent question about [installing service packs to active/active clusters][1]. I had a quick dig around and found a few possible solutions to your problem: [Installing SP2 on a 4 way active cluster][2] - this is not the exact setup you have, but outlines how it should work. [11009 No passive nodes were successfully patched][3] - says to look at SQL Browser [Handling "No passive nodes were successfully patched"][4] - says to look at a hotfix (don't think this will help you though) The steps according to these resources would be: - Fail the instances over to one node. - Make sure all cluster resources are online - Check the Cluster log for any errors/problems - Ensure SQL Browser is running (if only for the upgrade) - Run the SP install - all nodes of the cluster should receive the upgrade - You may have to restart the nodes - Fail back to all nodes - Done [1]: http://ask.sqlservercentral.com/questions/29912/how-to-install-sql-server-2005-sp3-on-activeactive-cluster [2]: http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic371849-146-1.aspx [3]: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlsetupandupgrade/thread/c83861e7-c88f-4a2a-bd4e-1cbd3830facb/ [4]: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/joesack/archive/2009/01/08/handling-no-passive-nodes-were-successfully-patched.aspx

rinse and repeat on node2 instance 2?? SPs are instance based installations.
