Hi, Is there is any tool or any way to compare only DDL statements of two different Databases. Both Databases are in different servers in SQL Server, but with common login name. Source DB is in SQL Server 2005 and Target DB is SQL server 2008. Just i want to know the DDL differences. Any assistance is really appreciated. Thanks Maddy
Try out Red-Gate's [SQL Compare] it does schema comparisons and shows them up in a nice window to compare source and target systems. They have a 14 day trial, and it is not expensive to buy if you use it alot. They also have loads of other great tools - check the website out. :
Piling on at this point, but what the heck. I'm a huge fan of Red Gate's SQL Compare. I've been using it since it came out, eleven years ago. But I've also looked at Atlantis-Interactives compare utility. It's great. There is a compare utility built into Micrsosoft's Visual Studio 2010. It's not so hot, but it's functional & there if you already have VS2010. Idera has one, but I haven't looked at it. Embarcadero has one that will work with multiple platforms, oracle, db2. It's functional, but I think it's a bit of a pig, large & slow.
Well, just to show I am not biased - nobody has mentioned [Apex SQL Diff]... I can definitely say that is a fine product. There are, in fact, hundreds of compare tools, and each one will do things slightly differently - each one has weaknesses and strengths, and it's a matter of really finding out which one will work best for you. AFAIK, There's only one schema tool that works on Denali right now though! :) :
