star schema in ms sql server

Hi, I am newbie to Ms sql server and datawarhousing.I have knowledge in oracle dba. I am asked to create the star schema for HR MODULE.I don't have any idea about that.Please anyone explain that.

What is the purpose of datawarehouse?
