Database Diagrams

If I use Management Studio to create Diagrams, does the fact that I'm describing Foreign Key Relationships, and possibly changing some of the settings, change anything in the actual database? In other words, is this tool a recorder of information or a designer of a databasse and has the ability to change table attributes? I'd like to use it on a database that comes with a purchased application and don't want to affect the way it works in any way.

Thanks.

I wouldn't do any "develoment" on a Live database - I might press any number of wrong keys! Backup and Restore the database to a different name and work on that, for safety

Yes, it changes the database.

If you still want to use this, take a copy of the database and work on that. Alternatively, use a modeling tool such as Visio.
