I've been wondering about this. You can get a badge for creating a tag that is used in 50 questions. I don't know how one does this. I've tried implicit creation by adding a non-existent tag on a question but the system comes back with a message that new users can't create tags. I'm pretty sure that by now most of us are not new users.
Too bad. I think I could be credited with at least two tags that are now active: hp-polyserve (does anyone else support this?) and red-gate (which I am sure will be popular as the site catches on).
IIS, HOTFIX, TROUBLE-SHOOTING (or PROBLEM-SOLVING) WEB, SITE, HARDWARE, VBSCRIPT, SOA, CLOUD, WINDOWS, WINDOWS-2003, WINDOWS-XP, QUESTION, and SHAREPOINT are outstanding candidates as I type.
I recognize the need to keep tags standardized (see the tags I included for a prime example), but... how do we create new tags?
