Hi folks,
what's the reason for this site, when we have Stack Overflow (yes, yes part of the stack exchange, etc. etc..) for our programming (i place SQL programming and administration under the 'developer' tag).
I feel like this is just duplication and doesn't help the SQL field in general having information split across places :(
SQL Team, before StackExchange came along, had a number of "regulars" who were skilled in the art of SQL Server.
When StackOverflow started I answered questions about SQL Server there; however, SO quickly became very busy, and I gave up following it for that reason. (I could monitor just questions with "SQL" tags, but my interests are wider than that, and in the end the number of questions that matched my "tags of interest" was so great that I stopped monitoring it).
Having said that I have seen some very competent answers [to SQL questions] from people on SO.
I made a suggestion on meta.StackExchange.com that New Questions, on StackOverflow, should show potential answers from all StackExchange sites, as well as StackOverflow; thus asking a new question on StackOverflow would show possibly matching answers from ask.SQLTean.com [and others]
It is there because it is there.
All things exists for a reason.
What's the reason for StackOverflow when there's Expert's Exchange?
If you prefer StackOverflow please post there instead of Ask SQL Team.
So people don't have to wade through non-sql entries.
I am glad Bill set this up.
This, stackoverflow and serverfault are all great!
Things would become diluted if we have several sites covering the same subject matter.
