[Meta] How to get automatic notice when someone commented on your Questions or Answers

How do you automatically figure out if somebody comment on your answer/question while you are on the homepage of ask-ssc. After the OSQA upgrade I am checking comments manually in each question and I am missing few things. Today @william asked for execution plan as a comment to my question but I missed that one, but I have seen many of his comments below. I used to see small mail button in blue next to my username in the old stackoverflow system whenever someone replied to my answers/questions. How are you doing this? Let me know if there is a better way. BTW I prefer not to get notified through email. Thanks!

> BTW I prefer not to get notified through email. I think that kills it... I believe email is the only way right now. I have to say, I was answering a question on Stack the other day and I thought 'I miss this'. There are lots of things that OSQA does a bit better, and I'm sure over time it will get even better... But... for now...

Yes, I am thoroughly impressed with OSQA and it works beautifully here. But I do miss having that notification bar at the top.

There's a feature request for this which you can [upvote on JIRA]( http://jira.osqa.net/browse/OSQA-369)...

Its funny, I dont mind the email thing. I have created an ASKSSC sub folder and all email gt directed in there automatically. I can then view that folder for unread item to see if there are new questions, answers or comments on questions that I have commented on. I guess I have adapted to it, to the point that I forgot about the envelope on SE! It would be good to have some indication on the ASKSSC page that there is activity that you need to pick up on as when I am not on my PC(where email and ASKSSC open in the browser automatically), checking email before visiting the site is a PITA

@FatherJack, I dont usually mind to get notified through email but I use a different gmail account to subscribe here and I am already logged in with my primary email to the browser. That means I have to sign out and sign in again or open another browser which makes it equally painful as checking for comments manually.

@DaniSQL - all I can suggest then is to set your ASKSSC GMail to forward ASKSSC incoming to your other email ... ?

Thanks @FatherJack. Just created a filter and label to automatically forward emails coming from this site. we will see how it goes.

I have yet to receive any email!!! My profile has yet to have the email validated but I have not received the email to allow me to this. Don't mean to hijack this question but does anyone know why this may be or where I can go to get this activated?

There are RSS options for individual questions, as well as a feed for all new questions. See the RSS logos on the right. Of course, they're not as fast as the email updates could be (if you configure for instantaneous notification.)

I wanted to get notified only when somebody replied to questions I am somehow involved. Other questions I will check'em out manually. I am not sure I can do that by RSS unless I subscribe specifically to that question or to 'all questions. am i right?

@DaniSQL yes, you would have to subscribe to RSS feeds individually for each question in which you are interested. The "All questions" feed just adds new questions rather than all activity.
