Looking for Adventureworks DB to work with in SQL Server 2008 R2

I purchased a MCTS course book with some training databases called Adventure Works included, but am now working on a new Windows 7 64bit machine. Cannot attach these databases to my instance of SQL (2008 R2) due to problems with the version of the databases. I have searched high and low on the net, but cannot seem to find anything that is compatible. Would really appreciate it if anyone has a suggestion. First prize wouold be copies of the actual DB's in the correct format. Thanks!

Up to 2 attachments (including images) can be used with a maximum of 512.0 KiB each and 1.0 MiB total.

How old is the MCTS book? I am surprised that the databases wont upgrade. It is probably best that you get the newest version you can though as they are built to demonstrate the new features that each version brings. Its just odd that you couldnt attach them to your server. What error did you get?

Quite inexpereinced in SQL, so it is quite possible I am doing something else wrong. I will need to paraphrase as I am not on the machine in question right now, but the message basically said that the DB could not be attached due to version incompatibility - with two numbers included (I think 592 and 651) being incompatible with each other. Sorry about the lack of specifics, not sure if that means anything to you. Will try and get the exact error message later.

Bought the book earlier this year. It is for use with 2008

ah, you may have a service pack issue. after installing SQL Server have you also installed the lastest service packs? That is recommended anyway...

(+1) Gah - slow fingers this morning. I'm still waiting for though-to-text input!

I tried this, and copied the DB files into MY SQl folder, but when trying to attach all I see is a folder named ..svnbridge, and no DB files are displyed under that. Quite inexpereinced in SQL, so it is quite possible I am doing something else wrong.

You shouldn't need to do anything as the installer will create the databases and other objects as required.

The samples are available online on [Codeplex][1] A newer version of SQL server can attach DBs from older version without a problem. DBs from a newer version of SQL server cannot, however, be attached to older versions of SQL server. [1]: http://sqlserversamples.codeplex.com/
