sql server 2008 maintenance plan

hi team, i have create a maintenance plan in sql server 2008,full backup every day at 23.00 hours and differential backup for every 8 hours, the main problem is , both the path resides on a network folder \\\\web08\\dbackup. my problem starts from here. full backup and differential backup's are executing very well, but the problem is with the clean up task, which should check the first level of the path and delete the files which are older than 8 day's holding an extension of **.bak**. when i go through the execution plan of clean up history, i can see the job executed sucessfuly. plz help me

Have you set the backup plans to create subdirectories? If so, have you set the deletion task to go into subdirectories? Or vice versa? I think I'm right in thinking that the deletion maintenance task doesn't look at the top level directory if you tell it to look in subdirectories.

yes i have set the backup plan to create sub folders for each database, and in maintenance plan to search for firs level folder to search the file with extension .bak, maintenace clean up task

If you are using maintenance plans then I would suggest having a good read of this book [ http://www.simple-talk.com/books/sql-books/brads-sure-guide-to-sql-server-maintenance-plans/][1] its very good at telling you how to configure them to get the best from them.
