BIDS installation difficulties

Hi, Myself and a developer have been trying for days to get the BIDS suite for Visual Studio. I already had SSMS2008 Express installed, and when I installed Visual Studio the project types did not come up. Since then I have tried uninstalling and re-installing various combinations of SSMS Express (standard and With Advanced Services) and VS ('08 and '10) but still do not get project types. Documentation often states it should be a feature I can choose to install when installing SSMS, however it is not showing up. I'm using MSDN downloads, as I need to know what we'll need to pay for and I'm a bit paranoid that it's because I'm using MSDN that I'm encountering difficulties. This shouldn't be difficult, and I've spent two days on this now. All the literature says that Express has BIDS. Does anyone have a process document on installing SSMS '08 and VS that I could follow?

Express Basic does not include the BIDS, you will need the Express with Advanced Services

@Stephanie - Listen to Kev - he speaks wisely. I've just uninstalled and reinstalled SQLExpress 2008 R2 for this very reason!
