[meta] Can you accept your own answer?

I was going through my own questions to tidy things up. I spotted a couple where I didn't really get the answer so I had to come up with a workaround or use a different approach. I thought I would add the final outcome and accept it as the answer but I can't accept my own answer.

I don't want any points for doing this, I just want to resolve the question the best I can. Is there a mechanism designed for this that I'm missing? If not, should it be added?

As I know, at least in the past it was possible to accept your own answers.

Yes, you definitely could when the site was on the Stack Exchange engine. If I remember correctly you got 1 point or something as mild encouragement to keep things tidy. Being a DBA, it's being tidy that matters to me, not the points!

On the old system I think you had to wait a certain period before you could accept your own answer.

As I have said before - the site is a great resource and answers are why people come. If your workaround was what achieved the results then it is the correct answer and should be marked as such. This is how we help the next ones who search on the same issue.
