SQL Backup Question

I have been asked for functionality differences between HPE StoreOnce and Redgate backup and have been told that being included in SSMS is not functionality but process. Has anybody used both and can give me functionality differences

It shouldn’t be about the greatest functionality first off but what can meet the companies required RPO and RTO for each database.

Can you use HPE StoreOnce to do full, diff, log backups? Can HPE StoreOnce ship them off site to the DR site? In the event of a disaster can HPE StoreOnce restore the database quickly enough to meet RTO and also have enough log backups in it to meet RPO?

Rinse and repeat with RedGate…

Rinse and repeat with CommVault…

Rinse and repeat with Netbackup…

I could do on with 3rd parties here but you get the

Rinse and repeat with native backups….

You then have a short list of what can get you out of the proverbial within the company agreed times.

Then you can look at the nicer things in life, what does HPE give me over RedGate, over native!

Compression? Faster restores to Dev/Test? Encryption? Warm standbys? Can they automate things like log shipping without the need to do it in SSMS? Deduplication? Better storage optimisation? Can they keep backups for x months, y quarters, z years for compliance?

You need to know what you want from the backup systems and ask the vendors what they can do for you.
