Recently I've noticed a lot more new tags being created, especially by new users (with karma of 1), generally if they don't know what the purpose of tags are and/or can't find the right ones for their question. In the 'old' SE version of ASK, there was a minimum level of rep needed before tag creation became an option - it was just a mechanism to ensure that a modicum of commitment to the site was needed, before diluting the content down. Apparently, [unlimited tag creation is how OSQA was designed to work], although there is now the ability to limit tag creation, it is 'off' by default. So before I go asking the admins to turn this on I thought I'd better canvass the opinion of the users - so what do we think? What level of rep did we need before? What level of karma do we think is appropriate? :
Do it. Do it soon. It was 100 - [

If we wish to maintain the integrity of this as a useful and reliable resource then I think we should have a minimum limit again. I have noticed that the spinny tag thing on the homepage is not as full as it was before though.
