How to reboot of four node SQL failover cluster after applying windows patches

Hi Team,


We have 4 node SQL failover cluster-2017. 2 servers in Datacenter1 and 2 servers in Datacenter2.

one primary node and 3 secondary nodes.


Please suggest best method to restart the cluster after windows security patches update.

Node by node, 4,3,2,1

Patch reboot DR data centre first.
Wait for them to be back online.

Patch secondary in primary data centre

Wait for it to be online

Failover

Patch the last machine

Wait for it to be online

Failback over if you wish

ok, Is there any way without failover always on to restart cluster.
Please suggest.

No, you need to reboot after patching so you need to failover.

If patching SQL , it stops the services also so you again need to failover.
