Does anyone have links to Microsoft documents that show how they develop and test SQL Server?

When we use backup/restore to migrate from older to newer versions, our in-house QA always ask how we can be sure that the restored database is "the same" - meaning in data content - as the original. "It just is because it's SQL Server" works for me(!), but not for them, and we cannot feasibly compare all the data. Have MS published standard tests, error rates etc that I can use to provide reassurance?
