Oracle Linked Server Performance on anything but 2008R2

Hi, I have a linked server from SQL server to an Oracle 11G instance, it works fine on Server 2008R2 but any other operating system performance is worse. On 2008R2 a query is under a second on other operating systems it takes anything from 2 seconds to a minute per query. It appears to be more related to the OS than the SQL version as I have tried various combinations. Im not sure what is so special about 2008R2 but I cant upgrade until I get this sorted. Any ideas appreciated
