How to add sql server to existing availability group on the same subnet

We have added a new sql server to an existing availability group. The new server is on the same subnet as the primary. Synchronization is working and it is currently set to async. The problem appears to be that the new server is not aware of the listener. The listener IP is already configured for the existing subnet. IPCONFIG on the primary server shows the server IP and the listener IP. IPCONFIG on the new server shows only the server IP. We discovered this when we attempted a failover, which obviously failed. Trying to figure out if we missed a step when adding the new server to the AG, or if this is something we can correct at this point.

1/16/20 EDIT: It appears my original assumption was incorrect. It looks like the listener IP will only show up in IPCONFIG on the primary/active server at the time. We are still running into the same issue with trying to failover to the new server on the same subnet. Error tracing appears that the issue may have something to do with bringing up the listener on the new server. Any help is appreciated.
