If I update a database that is in an availability group, will the replica update as well

I need to upgrade my product and need to know how this will affect my replica in the availability group.

Do I have to upgrade them separately?

Any data modifications that the upgrade performs would be transmitted to the secondaries. You wouldn't have to update the secondaries separately. Keep in mind that large transactions might affect high availability if the latency between nodes isn't sufficient for massive data modifications. If the upgrade is doing something to the database itself, depending on what it that is, it might not work as the database is in an AG. I would ask the vendor for specifications on how to upgrade with a database that is in an availability group. They should have guidance/documentation on the process.
