Can patching of SQL Server Availability Group Cluster be rolled back before patching original Primary

During patching SQL Server Availability Group Cluster, is it possible to rollback midway after patching the standby node? i.e. applied service pack on Node2 and then make Node2 the Primary and test the result of patching. if issue were uncovered that can Node1 (previous primary) be started as the old version?

I guess this is related to the question: would patching affect or change user databases?
