We are thinking of eliminating AWS EC2 instance for SQL server and use RDS instead. One issue I am facing is RDS doesn't support dbmail. Currently, I have some monitoring job on the server that uses store procedure to check for issue and send out dbmail in the procedure to alert me. Since RDS is not able to send out email, this will not work any more. What is the best way to handle this kind of issue in RDS environment? I looked into other AWS services, there are Lambda functions, data pipeline, AWS Simple Email Service, none appear to be easy to set up to just run query in sql server and send out email based on results. Does anyone run into this issue before? What is your recommended approach? I could use the RDS sql agent to schedule job and maybe trigger job error if data error is found. but it appears there is also no way to systematically query job history, other than going to the job history manually. Any suggestions you have, much appreciated!
